The Sights

While we are happy for you to do your own research and explore Juneau on your own we would love to work with you to create a perfect day of exploring our beautiful town. If you choose to have us help plan your day, we will leave a personalized brochure in the car for your day off the beaten path.

Here are a few of Juneau’s “Biggest Hits”:

Mendenhall Glacier

The biggest draw in town, for most visitors, is to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreational Area . This gorgeous glacier attracts so many visitors because it is the most accessible glacier in Southeast, Alaska. Incredible as it seems, this glacier is so close to the end of the road that you can actually see it from the parking lot!

Besides the Mendenhall Glacier itself, the area where the glacier is located, also hosts a majestic waterfall named Nugget Falls. Nugget Falls is located about a 1 mile walk on a flat, gravel trail from the visitor center although it is also visible from the Mendenhall Visitor Center parking lot.

If you decide to visit the Mendenhall glacier it is highly recommended to visit the Mendenhall Visitor Center because it has some spectacular photographs and exhibits inside, as well as a small gift shop. Don’t forget to make sure to check out what fees may apply when accessing the Mendenhall Visitor Center area!

More information about the Mendenhall Glacier can be found here.

“Out the Road”

Tell any local you are heading “out the road” and they will know where you’re headed. This area offers numerous spots for taking pictures, relaxing beach strolls, or even playing frisbee golf! During the drive make sure to keep your eye out for wildlife munching on plants alongside the road and distant whales in the ocean visible from the road.

Some visitors enjoy completing the drive to the “End of Road” sign which is located roughly 1 hour away from Downtown Juneau, and is literally the farthest point away that you can drive.

Douglas Island

Located directly across Gastineau channel from where the cruise ships are located, Douglas Island is accessible by “The Bridge”. Douglas Island has a variety of different things to see depending on your interests. Historical areas, trails, local food establishments, and even views of the glacier make this an area locals frequent throughout the year.
